A Girl Can Be a Hero
One of the songs on my new CD “Roller Coaster Ride” is called “A Girl Can Be a Hero.” I was inspired to write this song when I saw a powerful documentary called “Miss Representation” which was on Oprah’s Lifetime Network. The message is so powerful. I was struck by the fact that when girls were talking about what they wanted to be when they grew up, most of them wanted to be pop stars! There are just not enough women role models in high level business positions or in powerful positions in government. And when a woman does achieve professional visibility, it seems like all the media talks about is what she’s wearing! Do you think it is difficult for your daughter to have a positive self-image given the way the media portrays women in commericials, movies, and television? Please comment below and get in on the conversation.
