The Switch is the ideal system for it. It's an aging game that you've probably had the chance to play on another system, but it's still incredibly enjoyable, and the Switch's portability arguably makes it the definitive version.

Some of the fantasy elements are reminiscent of Breath of Fire, and the combat and party systems have been compared to Monster Hunter. And it feels all the more exciting for it.

I like the pawn system, arguably more now than when I originally played the game.

You create your own pawn, and it joins you on your quest as effectively a second AI-controlled character.

They're an interesting class because they're basically dirty fighters. With that said, it does at least one thing that is somewhat ridiculous when you reach the conclusion of the game. Doing so was a perfect mix of starting over yet maintaining a lot of my previous attributes, so despite being a bit weaker it felt like a great fresh start.

Other than the egregious “romance” that is forced upon the Arisen (often unbeknownst to the player until it is too late), the storyline in DDDA is expertly written and presented from beginning, to end, and beyond.

© It's in the rangy skeletons that lunge at you with cricking knees and the hollowed knights (seemingly quickened by their demise) who hop and jab with rapiers. It's rough in parts, and numerous other RPGs tell a better story or inspire greater awe.

But the open-ended world, intense action, pawn party system, extra content, and improved graphics all make this adventure a good pick for RPG fans. The world of Gransys is in and of itself fairly uninteresting; I tended to find myself much more fascinated with the caves, mines, and other mysterious pockets that Gransys had tucked away, each permeating with eerie histories and surprises.
