Another aspect that made this side trip quite reasonable was that it was enroute to Elephant Butte Dam & Lake/T or C, via highway 51, which junctions a short ways further on.

Florida's Space Coast has long been our nation's gateway to exploring, discovering & understanding our universe. It was particularly good because the day was quite clear albeit rather breezy. We, 301 S Foch St, Truth or Consequences, NM 87901-3365, I would probably rate this higher if I had actually gotten a chance to see it myself, other than just driving to the main gate and looking into the grounds. Most recently (28-31AUG2019), I had cycled my eBikeKit-assisted CruzBike to HatchNM and seriously considered pushing onto terrific Truth or Consequences, but resolved to visit there in the near future—including a stop at the most recent close by arrival: Spaceport America. A worthwhile trip for those who like to travel/explore! I think they could do a better job. There were 11 of us on the tour and Curtis was our driver/guide. Our tour guide, Curtis was very accommodating and did a great job!

I very much enjoyed my visit to Spaceport America. Out here in the far-Northern reaches of the Chihuahua Desert, this “El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro” (“Royal Road of the Interior”) took a detour across the very rough/very dry desert surface to the distant capital & trade center of Santa Fe instead of plying to the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo because it was an “easier time saver“ to NOT have to traverse the mountains/canyons along the exotic river.
