Very little of LA Noire is automated unless you want it to be, with (the real) you crouching down to pick up evidence, turning it over in your hands using the Vive motion controllers to find a crucial clue. I’ve patted witnesses on the head during interrogations and struggled to resist the urge to stick a finger up their nose. LA Noire was made before VR was even a feasible concept so it was not built with the tech in mind. LA Noire is like Rockstar’s Skyrim. It makes what was otherwise the best part of the original game the most clunky and frustrating parts of the VR version. Also, full confession: I found it nearly impossible to resist sticking my fingers up their oblivious noses. When it comes down to the interrogations, everything you do feels very fragile and easy to mess up. Rockstar facilitate all of this because, simply, virtual reality can be a good laugh and the developer is happy to let you interact with its world as you see fit. Crime scene investigation is the most clear and present, while interrogation is a close second. The biggest difference between this and the recent PS4/Xbox One/Switch versions is that here you can doodle in your notebook while you catch people in their webs of lies.
